Do you remember my 100 days off alcohol last year?

Every year, from 1st September to 9th December I take 100 days off drinking, other than a limited number of VERY special exceptions.

As much as drinking wine is fun, it’s always good I feel to give my body a rest for a while. I don’t drink that much, it’s just about some balance.

We’re big fans of responsible drinking. It’s a huge part of drinking. Understanding your limits and your intake is vital to wine being a positive influence and part of your entertainment.

For my last day of drinking last year I visited my pals at St Vincent, Newcastle and drank a bunch of Tillingham wines, ate some wonderful bread and cured meats, then went in search of chicken and waffles. An angry lady on a bike shouted at me too.

Wine for the rest of summer?

Do you spend £500 on wine a year?

Be honest.

The chances are you do. That’s not really that much when you think about it. Probably more – way more.

£500 a year is about £9.60 a week. Even £1,000 a year is only about £19.25 a week!

It’s one of the reasons we set up in a subscription format.

It’s likely that wine is bought by “nipping in” to somewhere and grabbing a bottle. Maybe something familiar, maybe something new. But it’s often in the region of £7 a bottle we think.

It’s possible to really level up the quality of the wine with just a few £s extra spent with us, plus the convenience of your wine being at home when you want it and delivered regularly.

Yes, you can order really easily with one click from the site for some of our products but the real focus of our brand is personalised recommendations and detailed wine conversations through WhatsApp and Facebook messenger.

We love to get involved in deep conversations about what wines our customers might be into; what they’ve tried or haven’t tried or even helping people who aren’t sure what they want and want to learn.

Recently we helped a Malbec lover try their first Malbec led blend (with Cabernet Sauvignon); we helped a couple try a bunch of organic Sauvignon Blancs and a lady find her favourite sparkling wine as an alternative to Prosecco (after about 20 bottles tasted).

We’re celebrating English Wine Week

English Wine Week 2020 is 20th June to 28th June, and this week we’ve been celebrating some of the best wines our country has to offer.

Everyone who follows us knows that we’re huge fans of English wines. We have a phenomenal Davenport package on offer, which is one of our favourites, and during lockdown have sampled the Forty Hall Bacchaus.

Forty Hall is super interesting – according to the label it’s the only commercial scaled vineyard in London, run as a not for profit, by volunteers.

When it comes to the Davenport, our favourite is the Horsmonden which is a blend of Ortega, Faber, Siegerrebe, Bacchaus and Huxelrebe and it’s probably Steve’s favourite white wine, however the Diamond Fields, which is a Pinot Noir is a stunning red that can’t be overlooked.

But it’s not just that they’re grown in England that makes us love these wines – it’s the quality, which is something we always pride ourselves on here at One Day Wednesday.

The Davenport and the Forty Hall really are fantastic wines and compete well with anything in our opinion.

Supermarkets Wine Stocks Are Running Low…

Supermarkets, shops and off-licences could soon run out of wine and beer after pubs, bars and restaurants close across the nation, and an unprecedented demand for alcohol to get people through the Covid-19 lock down drives stockpiling and bulk buying.

Shoppers have already been greeted with empty shelves in many areas as customers stockpiled from Friday 20th March, after the government announced the closure of all pubs, bars and restaurant. This has left many people without wonderful wine.

Majestic Wine’s website crashed as shoppers inundated the retailer with orders for cases of red and white to get them through the isolation of a shutdown, and we have already seen Naked Wines stop taking orders due to low stock.

It leads to worry that the country could soon run out of wine with importers prioritising food and other essentials over wine, spirits and beer… But look no further, we still have plenty of stock to go round and are still delivering direct to your door with one day delivery available!
